Bangladesh’s newly sworn-in President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has received a congratulatory message from Indian President Droupadi Murmu following his assumption of office as the country’s 23rd president.

Mirza Fakhrul took the oath at Bangabhaban at 7:30pm on Friday, with Acting Speaker of Parliament Barrister Kayser Kamal administering the oath.

In her congratulatory message, Murmu warmly congratulated Mirza Fakhrul on assuming office as president of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

“I am confident that your long experience in public life and political leadership will be of immense value in serving the people of Bangladesh,” she said.

Highlighting the close ties between the two countries, Murmu said India and Bangladesh share a unique relationship rooted in a common history of sacrifices, close cultural ties and warm bonds of friendship.

She noted that bilateral cooperation between the two countries has continued to expand in areas including energy, technology, connectivity, youth affairs, health and education.

“I look forward to working with you to further strengthen this partnership between our two neighbouring countries,” she said.

Murmu also conveyed her wishes for Mirza Fakhrul’s continued health, happiness and success in carrying out his responsibilities, as well as for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of Bangladesh.
