Govt Reviewing 101 MoUs, Agreements Signed With India

The government is reviewing 101 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and agreements signed with India by the previous government, Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni said on Thursday.

He disclosed the information while responding to questions from journalists at a press conference following the third session of the 13th parliament.

“We are discussing all the agreements—all 101 MoUs. You will get the outcome very soon,” Moni said.

Asked whether the government could cancel some of the agreements, including arrangements allowing vessels of a friendly country to use the Chattogram and Mongla ports, the chief whip said all 101 MoUs and agreements with India were under review.

“You will see the outcome very soon,” he reiterated.

However, Moni did not specify which agreements would remain in force or which could be cancelled or amended.

The nine-working-day parliamentary session ended on Thursday.

Summing up the session, Moni said six bills had been introduced and passed during the period.

A total of 1,678 questions raised in parliament were answered, including 15 questions answered directly by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, he said.

The chief whip expressed hope that future parliamentary sessions would be held on schedule in line with constitutional provisions.

He said the third session was held as part of the constitutional requirement for parliament to sit at regular intervals and that the next session would also be convened accordingly.
