Abducted Bangladeshi National Sufiul Anam rescued in Yemen

UN official in Yemen Col (retd) Sufiul Anam, who was abducted by Al-Qaeda in Yemen has been rescued. 

Sufiul Anam, a Bangladeshi national, was rescued under the direct instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, according to Foreign Ministry sources.

Foreign Ministry sources said on Tuesday that the former army officer, who was abducted in southern Yemen in February last year, was rescued under the direct instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Currently, he is said to be in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“He is in good health. He has been shifted to Abu Dhabi,” sources said.

Sufiul was working as a Field Security Coordination Officer (Head) of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security in Aden. 

He served in the Bangladesh Army from 1977 to 2005 and has been working at the UN since his retirement.
