The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Rangpur Region and the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) North Bengal Frontier held a courtesy meeting at the Banglabandha-Phulbari ICP on the Bangladesh-India border around noon on Thursday, according to a BGB statement.

During the meeting, BGB vehemently protested and condemned the recent shooting death of 15-year-old Bangladeshi Jayanta Kumar Singh by the BSF at the Baliadangi point on September 9. BGB Thakurgaon Sector Commander Colonel Muhammad Towhidur Rahman confirmed the incident.

In response, BSF North Bengal Frontier Inspector General Shri Surya Kumar Sharma expressed regret for the incident and assured the BGB that the BSF would avoid opening fire on Bangladeshi citizens in the future.

The meeting was attended by BGB Rangpur Region Commander Brigadier General Khandaker Shafiquzzaman, Deputy Inspector Generals of the Siliguri and Kishanganj Sectors, and other senior officials from both forces. The two sides agreed to collaborate on preventing cross-border crimes, stopping illegal border crossings, and raising awareness among border residents.
