The funds will be distributed through UNHCR and UNICEF to ensure rapid delivery of relief supplies. Ambassador IWAMA conveyed his condolences to those affected by the floods and praised the efforts of rescue and relief teams. He emphasized Japan’s ongoing commitment to supporting Bangladesh, given Japan's own experience with natural disasters.
This flood marks the first major natural disaster for Bangladesh’s interim government, which has been in office for a month. In addition to the $1 million pledge, Japan previously donated $2 million through the Japan Platform, which is aiding distribution of relief materials by seven Japanese NGOs in eastern Bangladesh.
Moreover, the Japanese Commerce and Industry Association and the Japanese Association in Dhaka contributed Tk200,000 to the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society to further support affected families.
Ambassador IWAMA expressed hope that this combined assistance from the Japanese government, businesses, and NGOs will aid in Bangladesh’s recovery and help "build back better." He reaffirmed Japan's commitment under the strategic partnership between the two countries to support Bangladesh through this crisis and toward future prosperity.
