Bangladesh and Maldives Strengthen Bilateral Ties

During their discussions, the leaders emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration between their nations, focusing on areas such as trade, investment, tourism, and climate change research, while also advocating for revitalizing the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) to foster regional integration.

Prof. Yunus underscored the urgency of building closer ties, highlighting the shared challenges posed by climate change. “Our very existence is at stake,” he remarked, stressing the importance of collective action to address these critical issues.

President Muizzu acknowledged the vital contributions of Bangladeshi workers to the Maldives' construction and tourism sectors, noting the potential for further collaboration in tourism, fisheries, and climate initiatives. He advocated for expanded trade and economic cooperation, stating, “Working together will bring significant benefits to our peoples.”

Prof. Yunus echoed this sentiment, calling for the activation of SAARC as a key platform for economic cooperation, insisting, “We should be closer; there should be no distance between us.” This meeting marks a significant step toward strengthening the partnership between Bangladesh and the Maldives in an increasingly interconnected world.
