The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral trade relations, addressing key issues such as trade agreements, B2B meetings, the Joint Business Council, and the mutual recognition of quality control certificates. The discussion also covered the import-export of halal products, along with opportunities in the SME and pharmaceutical sectors.
FBCCI Administrator Hafizur Rahman highlighted the untapped potential for trade between Bangladesh and Pakistan, noting a significant trade imbalance. Currently, Bangladesh exports approximately $100 million worth of goods to Pakistan, while imports range between $600 million and $700 million. He emphasized the need for support to boost exports, particularly in jute and related products, as well as other promising SME offerings.
Rahman reaffirmed FBCCI’s commitment to fostering stronger trade ties and creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs and businesses in both countries.
In response, High Commissioner Maroof advocated for revitalizing the Joint Business Council to facilitate trade expansion. He proposed organizing a virtual meeting between FBCCI and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) to enhance private sector collaboration.
The meeting was attended by FBCCI Secretary General Md. Alamgir, Head of the International Wing Md. Zafar Iqbal, and other business leaders, all of whom contributed to the dialogue on improving trade dynamics between the two nations.
