Bangladesh, EU Begin Talks on Partnership Agreement
Bangladesh and the European Union (EU) kicked off a two-day introductory meeting in Dhaka on Tuesday, marking the beginning of negotiations for a Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Agreement aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
Leading the discussions, Additional Foreign Secretary (Bilateral) Dr. Md Nazrul Islam heads the Bangladeshi delegation, while Paola Pampaloni, Deputy Managing Director of the Asia and Pacific Division at the European External Action Service, leads the EU team.
Bangladesh's Ambassador to Belgium and Permanent Representative to the EU, Mahbuub Hasan Saleh, along with other EU officials, are participating virtually from Brussels.
The talks, structured into three main sessions, addressed a broad spectrum of issues, including institutional frameworks, international peace and security, governance and human rights, justice, and trade cooperation.
Further discussions on remaining themes are set to continue later this afternoon, with both sides eager to chart a roadmap for deeper engagement in the coming years.
