Libya to Hire More Bangladeshi Professionals and Workers

This was conveyed during a courtesy call by Libyan Ambassador to Bangladesh, Abdulmutalib S. M. Suliman, to Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, according to a press release from the ministry.

Ambassador Suliman also highlighted Libya's intention to increase imports of Ready-Made Garments (RMG) and jute products from Bangladesh as part of efforts to enhance bilateral trade.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding relationship between Bangladesh and Libya, particularly in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties next year. The two countries emphasized the importance of deepening economic cooperation.

Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin emphasized the potential for greater collaboration in the agricultural sector and stressed the need for stronger people-to-people connections. He also proposed strengthening ties between the Chambers of Commerce of both nations to boost business interactions and trade.

Additionally, Jashim Uddin urged the Libyan side to finalize an agreement for visa waivers for diplomatic and official passport holders to facilitate more robust government-level engagements between the two countries.

In addressing the challenges of irregular migration, Ambassador Suliman shared Libya's efforts to implement an electronic registration system to tackle the issue effectively.

Foreign Secretary Uddin recognized the significant contributions of Bangladeshi professionals and workers to Libya's economy and reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to promoting regular migration channels for sending skilled workers and professionals.

Both sides agreed to facilitate high-level visits and expedite the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish regular bilateral consultations, covering a wide range of areas to further advance their cooperation.
