Haiti and Benin Sign Cooperation Agreement
On Wednesday, Haiti and Benin formalized a historic partnership by signing a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening diplomatic relations and fostering political consultations on global issues.
The agreement was signed in Cotonou, during a significant meeting between the CARICOM Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Benin’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The discussions, centered around the theme "Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Promoting Pan-African and Caribbean Cooperation," provided the backdrop for the signing ceremony.
Haiti's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, signed the memorandum, which will remain in effect for five years, with the possibility of renewal.
Under this new agreement, Haiti and Benin will collaborate across various sectors, including security, education, culture, diplomacy, and scientific research.
In a statement, Haiti's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its support for the agreement, highlighting the shared interests between the two nations. The ministry also emphasized the importance of this partnership in furthering mutual development goals.
Additionally, both CARICOM and Benin authorities signed an agreement to waive visa requirements for citizens of the Caribbean and Benin, aiming to enhance connectivity and facilitate greater exchange between the two regions.
