Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi
Citing a recent statement by Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman, who acknowledged the strategic significance of both nations to each other, General Dwivedi affirmed, "India is strategically important to Bangladesh, and the same is true for us. We are neighbors, we must live together and understand each other. Any form of animosity is not in our mutual interest."
Despite some border tensions, General Dwivedi reassured that there are currently no security vulnerabilities from either side. "As of today, there is no vulnerability from either side. I have been in contact with the Chief of Bangladesh Army even during the leadership change, and we had a video conference in November," he noted.
The General also addressed the strong ongoing military cooperation between the two countries, mentioning that Indian officers continue to participate in Bangladesh’s National Defence College (NDC).
While joint military exercises have been postponed due to the current situation, General Dwivedi expressed optimism about future collaboration, saying, "Once the situation improves, we will proceed with the planned exercises. As of now, our military relationship remains strong and intact."
This reaffirmation of mutual strategic importance and the commitment to peaceful relations underscores the strong foundation of India-Bangladesh ties.
