Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, expressed optimism about enhancing trade connectivity and economic cooperation between India and Bangladesh, emphasizing the potential for stronger business and people-to-people ties.

During an interactive session held on Monday, the High Commissioner underscored the pivotal role of Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sector in the nation’s socio-economic development, and how it serves as a bridge for deeper trade relations between the two neighboring countries.

Verma highlighted the robust cooperation between India and Bangladesh in the RMG and textile sectors as a prime example of their mutual interdependence, benefiting both economies. He pointed out that the upcoming participation of a large Bangladesh delegation at Bharat Tex 2025 is expected to create new opportunities for establishing supply chain linkages, as well as fostering investments and technological partnerships across the textile value chain.

Bharat Tex 2025, a major global textile event, will take place in New Delhi, India, from February 14–17, bringing together key stakeholders from across the industry. The High Commission of India in Dhaka organized the session with leading business figures and chamber representatives from Bangladesh’s textile sector to discuss the event's potential.

The session featured prominent guests, including Md Anwar Hossain, Administrator of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Vice-Chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), and Mohammad Hatem, President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA). Special guests included Faruque Hassan, Chairman of BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT), and Md Jashim Uddin, Chairman of Bengal Commercial Bank and Vice-Chairman of Bengal Group of Industries.

Bangladeshi industry representatives expressed keen interest in the opportunities Bharat Tex 2025 offers, sharing confidence that deeper economic ties with India will create fresh avenues for growth and innovation in Bangladesh’s garment sector.
