Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain is likely to engage in bilateral talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on the sidelines of the Indian Ocean Conference in Muscat, scheduled for February 16-17.

“Honourable Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain is expected to meet his Indian counterpart in Muscat for bilateral discussions,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said during a weekly media briefing.

In response to a query, Alam confirmed that the specific agenda for the talks has not yet been finalized.

The conference, jointly organized by the Indian and Omani foreign ministries, has extended an invitation to Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser. Alongside his meeting with Dr. Jaishankar, Hossain is also expected to engage with key political leaders from Oman and other participating nations.

This year’s conference will address key issues, including maritime partnerships, amplifying the voice of the Global South, safeguarding maritime economic interests, and strengthening supply chains. Hossain is scheduled to take part in a plenary session focused on enhancing maritime supply chains.

Since its inception in 2016, the Indian Ocean Conference has been a platform for regional cooperation. Bangladesh hosted the 6th edition of the conference in 2023.

According to Alam, the event aims to foster constructive discussions to promote regional collaboration and tackle shared challenges.

Hossain departed Dhaka on Tuesday evening for Dubai, accompanying Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus for the “World Government Summit 2025” in the UAE. From Dubai, Hossain will travel to Muscat on February 14 to attend the conference, returning to Bangladesh on February 18.
