CA Seeks Closer Ties with Germany, Announces Likely Dec Elections
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has called for Germany's support in advancing his interim government's reform agenda, stating that national elections are expected to take place by the end of this year.
"We need your support for the New Bangladesh. We are working hard to make the upcoming general election a success," he said.
Dr. Yunus expressed Bangladesh’s desire to establish a closer relationship with Germany, aiming to deepen trade and investment ties with Europe’s largest economy. He made the comments during a meeting with Zarah Bruhn, a German government commissioner, at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka on Wednesday.
During the discussions, Dr. Yunus praised Germany's leadership in industries such as heavy manufacturing, highlighting the longstanding relationship between the two countries. "We have close ties with Germany, but we seek a special relationship," he emphasized.
Bruhn, who is visiting Bangladesh to explore social businesses and microcredit, commended Dr. Yunus’ leadership, expressing optimism for Bangladesh's future under his guidance. "I am a big enthusiast of your work," she said, expressing interest in launching social businesses in Germany.
The meeting also covered topics such as the Three Zero movement, social business initiatives, poverty reduction efforts, and the future of the welfare state. Lamiya Morshed, senior secretary and head of SDG affairs for the Bangladesh government, also attended the meeting.
