Bangladesh and China are poised to sign a series of pivotal agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during a high-level meeting between Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on March 28.
The anticipated agreements cover a range of collaborative areas, including human resource development, economic and technical assistance, cultural and sports exchanges, and media cooperation. Additionally, significant announcements related to economic growth, investment opportunities, and special economic zones are expected.
Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin briefed reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday afternoon, providing insights into the upcoming bilateral discussions. MoFA Spokesperson Mohammad Rafiqul Alam and several Directors General were also present at the briefing.
The bilateral meeting will take place at Beijing's iconic Great Hall of the People, a venue often associated with landmark international agreements.
The Foreign Secretary highlighted that the meeting between Dr. Yunus and President Xi will address several key strategic issues, including enhancing trade and investment, promoting cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, and renewable energy, and exploring solutions to the ongoing Rohingya crisis.
“China is Bangladesh’s closest friend, a strategic partner, and one of our largest commercial and development allies,” Md. Jashim Uddin stated. “Our diplomatic ties are stronger than ever, and we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relations this year with a series of events and initiatives.”
Dr. Yunus' official visit to China, scheduled for March 26-29, is expected to be a productive and successful one, with several important announcements on the horizon that will further deepen the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
