Bangladesh and the United States have engaged in discussions regarding the "potential acquisition" of US-origin military equipment to enhance interoperability and strengthen capabilities, the US Embassy in Dhaka announced.

Lt Gen Joel P. Vowell, Deputy Commanding General of US Army Pacific, visited Bangladesh on March 24-25. During his visit, Lt Gen Vowell met with senior officials of the Bangladesh Army, reaffirming the US Army's commitment to a strong partnership while emphasizing shared security concerns and ongoing cooperation.

The discussions also highlighted Bangladesh’s significant contributions to domestic security, especially in disaster response. Topics included Bangladesh’s military challenges and areas where the US could provide further support, as well as preparations for Exercise TIGER LIGHTNING in Summer 2025. Lt Gen Vowell commended the professionalism of the Bangladesh military and underscored the importance of professional armed forces in maintaining regional stability.
