On Friday, Bangladesh's Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) formalized their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing international cooperation in combating corruption.

The MoU was signed by ACC Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen and NACC President Suchart Trakulkasemsuk, representing their respective agencies. The event took place on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit, witnessed by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, as confirmed by CA's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.

Dr. Momen expressed his optimism about the agreement, highlighting its potential to improve the effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts between the two nations. "Many individuals implicated in corruption in Bangladesh have sought refuge in neighboring countries. This MoU will help us track them down and ensure accountability," he stated.

The MoU is aligned with the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), particularly Article 48, which encourages state parties to engage in bilateral and multilateral cooperation on law enforcement. The agreement sets the framework for both countries to exchange vital information, share best practices, collaborate on joint initiatives, and undertake other cooperative measures to prevent and combat corruption.

As per the terms of the MoU, Bangladesh and Thailand will provide mutual assistance by sharing information relevant to anti-corruption efforts, conducting joint research and projects, and facilitating knowledge exchange to strengthen the overall fight against corruption in both nations.

This partnership marks a significant step in fostering closer ties between Bangladesh and Thailand in their shared goal of tackling corruption on an international scale.
