A high-profile German business delegation, comprising leaders from various industries, arrived in Dhaka on Sunday for a five-day visit aimed at strengthening ties and exploring new economic opportunities in Bangladesh. The visit highlights Germany’s strong commitment to fostering deeper trade relations and underscores its belief in Bangladesh’s growing economic potential.

Germany continues to be one of Bangladesh’s key economic partners, with bilateral trade reaching USD 9.81 billion in 2024, according to the German Embassy in Dhaka.

The delegation includes officials from the German Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI), the German Export Credit Agency (Euler Hermes), GIZ, as well as several prominent German companies. The mission is organized by OAV – the German Asia-Pacific Business Association, a crucial network that advocates for German business interests in Asia and assists companies seeking to expand in the region.

German Ambassador to Bangladesh, Achim Tröster, expressed his enthusiasm about the visit, marking it as the first such mission from Germany since Bangladesh’s interim government took office. “We greatly appreciate OAV’s initiative to bring this delegation to Bangladesh at such a pivotal moment. This visit provides an opportunity to witness firsthand the immense potential and the significant progress in reforms within the country,” he said.

The delegation began their visit with a briefing hosted by the German Embassy in Dhaka. Over the next few days, they will participate in the Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025, scheduled to run from April 7-10. The summit, organized by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) in collaboration with the Chief Advisor’s Office, is expected to attract global investors and top executives, highlighting Bangladesh’s rapidly evolving investment landscape and offering unprecedented growth opportunities for both local and international stakeholders.

As the summit unfolds, the German delegation will explore avenues to further strengthen bilateral trade ties, focusing on sectors poised for transformative development in Bangladesh’s dynamic economy.
