Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum announced today that the Chinese government will gift a state-of-the-art 1,000-bed hospital to Bangladesh in celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Dhaka and Beijing.

The hospital will be constructed in Rangpur, with the government currently in the process of securing land for the project, Begum revealed during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.

In addition to the hospital, China has also agreed to provide Bangladesh with a robotic physiotherapy system, as a gesture of goodwill. "The robotic physiotherapy set has already arrived at Chittagong Port," Begum confirmed, adding that it will be installed at Bangladesh Medical University (formerly known as BSMMU). "This advanced equipment will provide injured patients with cutting-edge physiotherapy treatment, and a team will be trained to operate it," she said.

Begum also provided an update on the medical treatment for those injured during the July-August uprising, outlining the government’s efforts to provide timely care and rehabilitation for the affected individuals.

The press briefing was attended by several key figures, including Health Services Division Secretary Saidur Rahman, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Prof. Dr. Md. Abu Jafor, National Institute of Ophthalmology & Hospital (NIOH) Director Dr. Mohammad Abul Khair, National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) Director Dr. Md. Abul Kenan, and Chief Adviser’s Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad.
