Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus will depart for Doha on Monday for a four-day official visit to attend the Earthna Summit 2025 and engage in bilateral talks with Qatari leadership.

The visit comes at the invitation of Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, according to an official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During his stay, Dr Yunus is expected to meet both the Amir and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, alongside attending several high-level sessions at the Earthna Summit. Strengthening trade and investment ties between Bangladesh and Qatar is among the key agenda items.

He will be accompanied by Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, Energy Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, and Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan.

Women Athletes Join Official Delegation
In a landmark move, four national women athletes will accompany the Chief Adviser as part of the state delegation—marking the first time female athletes from Bangladesh are participating in an official foreign visit at this level.

The delegation includes footballers Afida Khandakar and Shaheda Akhter Ripa, and cricketers Sumaiya Akhter and Sharmin Sultana. Their invitation was extended by the Qatar Foundation through the Chief Adviser’s office.

The athletes met Dr Yunus on Thursday at the state guesthouse Jamuna, where they shared their aspirations for the visit.

“We’re proud to represent our country. This is not just a personal honour—it’s a moment of pride for our teams and for women’s sports in Bangladesh,” said the footballers.

They expressed interest in arranging a friendly match with Qatar’s women’s football team and learning about the country’s training and sports infrastructure. The cricketers plan to showcase the growth of cricket in Bangladesh and explore ways to promote the game in Qatar.

Dr Yunus praised the athletes for their dedication, calling them “sports ambassadors of Bangladesh.” He encouraged them to share their stories and represent the nation’s spirit through their journeys.

About the Earthna Summit
The Earthna Summit 2025, scheduled for April 22–23 in Doha, focuses on sustainability, innovation, and traditional knowledge—particularly in arid and hot environments.

The event will feature presentations, workshops, and interactive discussions involving experts from around the world. A special Earthna Village in Barahat Msheireb will host community events and talks, encouraging engagement and local participation.

Dr Yunus, a long-standing advocate of the “3 Zeros” vision—zero carbon emissions, zero wealth concentration, and zero unemployment—will use the platform to promote sustainable development and entrepreneurship.
