Dr Yunus Meets Speaker of UK House of Commons

Chief Adviser to the Government of Bangladesh, Professor Muhammad Yunus, met with Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the UK House of Commons, on Thursday at the historic Palace of Westminster in London.


During the meeting, the two leaders discussed a range of topics including strengthening parliamentary cooperation, fostering mutual understanding between the two nations, and expanding opportunities for educational and economic collaboration. The visit is part of Professor Yunus's broader engagement with UK officials and civil society as Bangladesh looks to enhance its diplomatic and development partnerships with key global allies.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle warmly welcomed the Chief Adviser and expressed appreciation for Bangladesh’s continued commitment to democratic values and inclusive development. Both sides acknowledged the longstanding historical and cultural ties between the United Kingdom and Bangladesh, and reaffirmed their intent to build upon this shared legacy.

Professor Yunus, a Nobel Laureate and globally renowned social entrepreneur, highlighted Bangladesh’s recent socio-economic achievements and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in tackling global challenges such as climate change, poverty reduction, and education reform.

The meeting also touched upon the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations and fostering people-to-people ties. Professor Yunus extended an invitation for future parliamentary exchanges and encouraged greater cooperation in areas of youth engagement and innovation.
