Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh on Thursday reaffirmed the enduring strength of Bangladesh-India relations, describing them as “forged through shared experiences and sacrifices” and forming “a foundation for a resilient, forward-looking partnership.”

“We are committed to enhancing inter-linkages and connectivity with Bangladesh across all sectors. Strengthening people-to-people ties remains at the heart of this partnership,” he said, speaking as guest of honour at a ceremony in New Delhi.

The event marked a belated celebration of Bangladesh’s Independence Day, organised by the Bangladesh High Commission at the Taj Palace Hotel. The observance was delayed due to the arrival of the new High Commissioner and the holy month of Ramadan.

The occasion drew a wide array of guests, including ambassadors, high commissioners, senior diplomats, government officials, scholars, members of civil society, and media professionals.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India M Riaz Hamidullah highlighted the importance of future-oriented cooperation.

“We celebrate not just to honour the past, but to envision a shared future—as neighbours and partners in progress,” he said.

Citing the recent transmission of 40 MW of Nepalese hydropower to Bangladesh via India, the High Commissioner called it a successful example of sub-regional synergy and urged for reimagined regional partnerships.

As the current chair of BIMSTEC, Bangladesh remains committed to reinvigorating regional cooperation, he added.

The evening also featured a cultural showcase of traditional Jamdani sarees and a specially curated dinner prepared by chefs from Dhaka’s renowned Fakhruddin Catering, featuring the iconic Dhakaiya Kacchi Biryani.
