Bangladesh today urged Romania to resume labour recruitment from Bangladesh and proposed to reopen the Romanian Embassy in Dhaka to deepen engagements.

The call was made when the Non-resident Ambassador of Romania to Bangladesh Sena Latif, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam at the latter’s office this afternoon, said a ministry’s press release here.

During the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction over the existing bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in different areas.

The Foreign Secretary proposed collaboration in trade, investment, labour mobility, education and consular services.

He also highlighted opportunities for trade diversification and investment in sectors such as ICT, renewable energy and agro-processing.

Siam also suggested academic collaboration through joint scholarships, recognition of degrees and academic exchanges between universities of the two countries.

The Ambassador appreciated the proposals and assured of conveying them to the Romanian authorities.

She also took note of the request of facilitating visa services to prospective Bangladeshi students and workers through interim consular arrangements.

The Foreign Secretary assured the Ambassador of the fullest support of the Bangladesh government in discharging her duties and responsibilities towards further strengthening bilateral relations during her tenure, reports BSS.
