USA Deports 39 Bangladeshis Over Illegal Immigration

The United States has deported 39 Bangladeshi nationals on charges of illegal stay in the country. A chartered flight carrying them arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday morning.

A senior official from the Immigration Department of the Special Branch (SB) of the police confirmed the information. He stated that initial reports suggested over 50 individuals might be deported, but eventually, 39 were sent back.

The deportation comes amid a renewed crackdown on undocumented immigrants in the US. Following Donald Trump's re-election as President for a second term, US immigration authorities intensified operations targeting foreign nationals living illegally in the country. This latest deportation is seen as part of that ongoing campaign.

In recent months, the US has significantly increased efforts to repatriate undocumented immigrants to their countries of origin. Bangladeshi nationals have been among those affected, with previous groups also being deported under similar circumstances.

The returnees are expected to undergo questioning by immigration and law enforcement officials upon arrival to verify their identities, travel histories, and possible involvement in any criminal activities abroad. Authorities will also determine whether they require further legal or administrative procedures under local laws.

Sources said that many of the deportees had entered the US through irregular channels, including via Latin American routes, and were later detained by American immigration officials during raids and routine checks. Some of them had spent months in US detention centres awaiting court decisions.

The government is coordinating with international agencies and foreign missions to monitor the treatment of Bangladeshi migrants abroad and to ensure the safe and orderly return of those who face deportation.
