Yunnan provincial authorities in China have assured full cooperation to ensure quality healthcare for Bangladeshi citizens seeking treatment in the province.

The commitment came during a visit by a 23-member Bangladeshi delegation to the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University on Thursday, where they held discussions with provincial health officials and hospital chiefs.

“We are making every effort to support Bangladeshi patients visiting our hospitals. Our government and embassy in Dhaka remain in close contact with Bangladesh to strengthen healthcare cooperation,” said Wang Jiankun, Deputy Director of the Health Commission of Yunnan Province.

The visit is part of events marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Bangladesh. The delegation, led by Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, attended an interactive session with senior Chinese medical officials, including Zeng Zhing, President of the First Affiliated Hospital, Xie Hongbin, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Administration, and Han Rui, Director of the International Medical Department.

Issues discussed included language barriers, accommodation for attendants, travel costs, payment facilities, liaison offices, follow-up treatment, billing procedures, and the cost of repatriating bodies. Wang said the authorities are working to address these concerns.

Azad Majumder urged Chinese authorities to allow more Bangladeshi students in Chinese medical universities to help patients overcome the language barrier.

Hospital officials said 67 Bangladeshi patients, suffering from conditions such as liver cirrhosis and breast cancer, received treatment there in the past six months.

A banquet hosted by the local foreign office reaffirmed Yunnan’s commitment to facilitating medical visits for Bangladeshi patients. The delegation will tour more hospitals in Kunming on Friday.
