Bangladesh has criticised recent comments made by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh regarding Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, calling them “incorrect” and not in keeping with diplomatic norms.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson SM Mahbubul Alam said the remarks were not helpful and did not reflect the respect expected in bilateral relations.

He reaffirmed that Bangladesh remains committed to maintaining a constructive and mutually beneficial partnership with India, grounded in sovereign equality, non-interference, and mutual respect.

Bangladesh believes that any differences in perspective should be addressed through respectful and constructive dialogue, he added.

In the interview where the remarks were made, the Indian minister had also noted that India does not seek tension in its relations with Bangladesh.
