Morocco’s Charge d’Affaires in Bangladesh, Shoyaib Azzahri, visited the National Press Club in Dhaka on Sunday, marking the first such visit by a Moroccan diplomat.

He met the club’s General Secretary, Ayub Bhuiyan, at his office following an invitation for a courtesy call. Dhaka Union of Journalists President Mohammad Shahidul Islam, former Dhaka Reporters Unity President Rafiqul Islam Azad, and several senior journalists were also present.

Discussions highlighted the longstanding ties between Morocco and Bangladesh. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral relations between the two brotherly Muslim nations, with senior journalist leaders sharing insights on various areas of cooperation.

Recalling the role of journalists during Bangladesh’s Liberation War, the General Secretary underscored their sacrifices to the visiting diplomat.

The Moroccan Charge d’Affaires later toured the club’s library, media centre, members’ lounge and green lawn, where he interacted with senior journalists. Their conversation touched on Morocco’s history, cultural heritage, and iconic traveller Ibn Battuta.
