The United States has once again urged its citizens in Bangladesh to exercise caution around large gatherings amid nationwide protests following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, a key figure of the July Uprising.

A routine advisory published on the US Embassy’s website in Dhaka on Friday stated: “US citizens should practice vigilance and remember that gatherings intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.”

The message added, “Large spontaneous or planned gatherings are likely throughout Bangladesh. You should avoid demonstrations and exercise caution near any large crowds.”

The Embassy specifically cautioned Americans to consider travel plans carefully around Dhaka when Hadi’s body is expected to arrive at 6 pm on Friday and during the funeral prayers on Manik Mia Avenue on Saturday afternoon. Travelers were advised to allow extra time for potential delays.

Earlier this week, the US Embassy had also advised its citizens to steer clear of demonstrations, citing concerns over possible violent political gatherings ahead of the national elections scheduled for 12 February.
