Lightning kills 6 farmers in Sunamganj

Sunamganj, Apr 23 - Six farmers were killed and another was injured as lightning struck them while they were harvesting paddy in haor areas at Chhatak, Doarabazar and Tahirpur upazilas of Sunamganj on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Maim Mia, 18, resident of Debergaon village of Jauabazar union, Arash Ali, 50, from Dakkhin Borokapon village, and Abdus Samad, 25, from Charmahalla union of Chhatak upazila. 

Two other farmers were killed and another was injured at Doarabazar upazila.

The deceased were Tara Mia, 32, son of Shamsu Mia from Ranbhumi village, and Milon Mia, 14, son of Shisu Mia from Fatepur village while the injured was Nizam Uddin, 25, son of Oji Ullah. 

In Tahirpir upazila, lightning killed the sixth farmer while working in the field. 

 The deceased was identified as Ramjan Ali, 15, son of Hatim Ali from Kukurkandi village.

Sunamganj Superintendent of Police Ahsan Shah said that since it is now boro harvesting season all farmers should take precautions.

"If you see the sky cloudy, you need to go to a safe place", he said. - UNB
