A woman and her two daughters died due to a landslide in the Jhilongja area of Cox's Bazar Sadar upazila early Friday.

This incident happened around 2 am in the South Dikakul area of Jhilongja Union in the upazila.

Additional District Magistrate Atul Goni Osman confirmed the matter.

The deceased were identified as Akhi Moni, wife of Mizanur Rahman from South Dikakul, and their two daughters, Miha Jannat Naima and Latifa Islam.

According to Akhi Moni's mother-in-law, they heard a loud sound of a landslide from Mizan’s house around 2 am during heavy rain. Later, they went and found that Mizan's family was buried under the debris. Mizan was immediately rescued alive. Subsequently, with the help of the fire service, the bodies of his wife and two young daughters were recovered.

Local residents said that Mizan’s house is at the foot of a hill. Heavy rain starting from Thursday afternoon had softened the soil. Later, during midnight, the hill collapsed and fell on his house.

Additional District Magistrate urged everyone living on the hills during heavy rainfall to stay in safe shelters, reports UNB.
