Save the Society and Thunderstorm Awareness Forum (SSTF), a social voluntary organisation, has given a three-point instruction towards the farmers in the fields to avoid lightning death in the country.

In an awareness meeting with farmers, who are involved in paddy harvesting this season, in Nawabganj of Dhaka district today, it discussed lightning which is one of the deadliest natural disasters, said a press release.

Of the 3-point instruction, the first one suggests never get wet in the rain or stay under trees in the open air.

If anyone stays in a crop field, river, canal, pond, or water body, he or she should quickly take shelter under a nearby building or concrete structure, it said as number two instruction.

If not available, stay in a relatively safe place, it added.

Number three: during the rain, keep away children from playing in the open field and refrain others from doing so.

SSTAF advised farmers working in the fields to follow the three-point instruction.

The organization also urged the relevant government departments and civil society to hold awareness programmes among farmers from May to June every year (the lightning season), provide free medical services to the injured and give Taka five lakh compensation to the families of the lightning victim, reports BSS.
