Dengue: 3 more die, 801 hospitalised in 24hrs
The dengue outbreak in Bangladesh has claimed three more lives in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of fatalities to 136 this year. The alarming rise in cases has prompted urgent calls for action from health officials.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 801 additional patients were admitted to hospitals nationwide, with 115 cases reported in Dhaka North City Corporation and 153 in Dhaka South City Corporation. Currently, 2,855 patients are being treated across various healthcare facilities.
Since January 1, 2024, a staggering 25,701 dengue cases have been confirmed. Last year was particularly devastating, with 1,705 fatalities making it the deadliest year on record. In 2023, the DGHS documented a total of 321,179 dengue cases, with 318,749 recoveries.
Health authorities are intensifying efforts to combat the spread of this mosquito-borne illness, emphasizing the importance of public awareness and preventive measures. As the situation evolves, officials urge communities to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families.
