In the latest update, five additional fatalities from dengue have been reported in Bangladesh within a 24-hour period, raising the total number of deaths this year to 163.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) also reported that 1,152 patients were hospitalized with viral fever during this timeframe. Among the recent deaths, one occurred in each of the following areas: Dhaka South City Corporation, Dhaka North City Corporation, and the divisions of Barishal, Chattogram, and Khulna.

In terms of hospitalizations, 252 dengue patients were admitted in Dhaka North, while 187 were treated in Dhaka South. Currently, a total of 3,462 patients are receiving treatment for dengue across various hospitals in the country.

Since January 1, 2024, there have been 30,938 reported cases of dengue. This follows a particularly severe year in 2023, which saw 1,705 deaths, marking it as the deadliest year on record. Last year, the DGHS recorded a staggering 321,179 dengue cases, with 318,749 recoveries.

Health officials urge the public to remain vigilant and take preventive measures against mosquito breeding to curb the spread of this dangerous disease.
