Dhaka, April 18 -- The overall number of Covid cases has now surged past 504 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.
According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 504,566,515 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,198,219 Monday morning.
The US has recorded 80,632,301 cases so far and 988,618 people have died from the virus in the country, the university data shows.
India's COVID-19 tally rose to 43,042,097 on Sunday as 1,150 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry's latest data.
Besides, four deaths due to the pandemic since Saturday morning took the death toll to 521,751.
Meanwhile, the Chinese mainland Sunday reported 2,723 locally-transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which 2,417 were in Shanghai, according to the National Health Commission's Monday report.
Apart from Shanghai, 15 other provincial-level regions on the mainland saw new local COVID-19 cases, including 166 in the northeastern province of Jilin.
Shanghai also reported 19,831 locally-transmitted asymptomatic infections of the novel coronavirus during this period, out of a total of 20,639 local asymptomatic carriers newly identified on the mainland.
Three new deaths from COVID-19 were reported on Sunday in Shanghai, according to the report.
Covid Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh logged 51 fresh Covid cases in 24 hours till Sunday morning, taking the total caseload to 19,52,326.
As per the latest government data, the country’s total fatalities remained unchanged at 29,124 as no deaths were reported during the period.
The daily positivity rate slightly dropped to 1.04 per cent from Saturday's 1.28 per cent after testing 4,892 samples during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Besides, the mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.49 per cent.
The recovery rate rose to 96.85 per cent with the recovery of 326 more patients during the 24-hour period. - UNB
