429 new dengue cases reported in last 24hrs

Health officials today said they recorded 429 fresh cases of dengue onslaughts in the past 24 hours with most patients reporting in health facilities in southwestern Barishal region.

"During the period, (of the 429) 113 patients were hospitalized in Barishal division" which appeared to have been the worst victim of the mosquito carried diseases, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement said.

It said among the rests, 78 were hospitalized in Chattogram division, 24 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 56 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 18 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 55 in Khulna division, 11 in Mymensingh division, 48 in Rajshahi division and six in Rangpur Division.

Since the start of the dengue onslaughts Bangladesh this year witnessed so far 62 deaths while the disease inflicted 17,218.

The DGHS, however, said 411 patients were discharged from different hospitals across the country after their recovery, reports BSS. 

The dengue last year claimed 575 lives and inflicted 1,01,214 people in the country.
