Elderly woman injured as crocodile bites

An elderly woman was injured as a crocodile bit her at Munsurabad area of North Channel union under Faridpur Sadar Upazila on Saturday.



An elderly woman was injured as a crocodile bit her at Munsurabad area of North Channel union under Faridpur Sadar Upazila on Saturday (October 22) morning.

The victim was known Parul Begum (55). She was rescued and immediately admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital in Faridpur.

According to local sources, Parul Begum came out of the house after the Fajr prayer on Saturday after hearing the sound of chickens. Meanwhile, the crocodile caught in the net bit her hands and feet. The crocodile then tried to drag her into the water of a canal next to the house. Hearing scream, her husband rushed to the spot and hit the crocodile with a bamboo. Later the crocodile went down into the canal.

Chairman of North Channel Union Parishad (UP) Mostakuzzaman Mostak said, “The matter has been informed to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Khulna range officials of Forest Department. Besides, the village police have been deployed next to that house.”

Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Liton Dhali said, “The matter has been informed to the Forest Department. Necessary measures will be taken soon.”
