Two workers killed as bus plunges into ditch in Dhamrai

A bus carrying workers of a ceramic factory fell into a roadside ditch due to poor visibility caused by dense fog at Dhamrai upazila in Dhaka early Saturday.



A bus carrying workers of a ceramic factory fell into a roadside ditch due to poor visibility caused by dense fog at Dhamrai upazila in Dhaka early Saturday (December 17), leaving two female workers of the factory dead and at least 15 others injured.

The accident took place around 6:00am at Khagurta area on the Saturia-Kalampur road.

The deceased were Aklima Aktar, 40, and Suraiya Begum, 30. Both were workers of Pratik Ceramic factory.

Md Ashraful Islam, sub-inspector (SI) of Dhamrai Police Station, said a bus of Pratik Ceramic factory was heading towards the factory from Manikganj’s Saturia with the workers. The driver of the bus lost control over the steering on the road and fell down on the roadside ditch, leaving two female workers of the factory dead and at least 15 others injured.

Later, Fire Service men rescued three who got stuck inside the bus. Of them, two found dead and another one in critical condition.

The other injured were sent to different hospitals, he said.
