In Kalapara, 120 tribal students get stipend, 20 bicycles

Patuahali: Cash stipend, 20 bicycles and 40 handloom weaving machines were distributed among 120 students of tribal Rakhine community in Kalapara of Patuakhali. At around 11:30 am on Sunday, Principal Md. Mohibbur Rahman Mahin, Member of Standing Committee on Defense Ministry of Jatiya Sangsad and Member of Parliament for Patuakhali-4 Constituency was present as the chief guest at Kalapara Upazila Parishad hall and distributed the gifts of the Prime Minister among the students and families.

Under the chairmanship of Kalapara UNO Shankar Chandra Baidya, the upazila parishad Acting Chairman Shahina Parveen Shima, Municipal Mayor Bipul Chandra Howlader, OC MD. Zasim, press club president MD. Humayun Kabir also spoke as special guests in this gift distribution ceremony for the small ethnic groups (Rakhines) under the program titled Development Assistance for Special Areas to improve the living standards of the small ethnic groups under the purview of the Prime Minister's office.

According to upazila administration sources, 80 tribal Rakhine students at the primary level will receive 2400 taka per year, 40 students at the secondary level will receive 6000 taka per year and 20 students at the upper secondary level will receive 9600 taka per year.
