Woman killed in Gazipur road accident
A woman was killed after being hit by a motorcycle on the Dhaka-Tangail higway in Gazipur Sadar upazila.
A woman was killed after being hit by a motorcycle on the Dhaka-Tangail higway in Gazipur Sadar upazila on Saturday night.
The accident took place at Baimile area under Konabari union at around 9 pm.
Deceased Jotsna Begum, 51, was wife of Rupchan Miah, hailed from Kualipara area under Bagmara upazila in Rajshahi district.
Quoting locals, Konabari Police Station sub-inspector Shawkat Imran said a speedy motorcycle hit the woman from behind when he was crossing the highway, leaving her critically injured.
Locals rushed her to Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Later, police recovered the body and seized the motorcycle. However its driver managed to flee the scene.
Legal steps are under process in this regard, the SI added.
