A teenage girl was killed and four others were injured after a truck smashed their private car in Cumilla early Monday, while returning to Noakhali village home from Dhaka airport.
The accident took place at about 4:30 am in Padua Bazar area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.
The deceased was Jahanara Akter, 17, daughter of Jalal Ahmed, hailed from Begumganj upazila in Noakhali district.
Police said the victim Jahanara Akter and her family lived in Saudi Arabia for a long time. They came to Bangladesh on Sunday (February 26) and left for Noakhali in a private car at night.
On the way, a speeding truck crashed their private car in the Padua Bazar area. Jahanara Akter died on the spot.
Jahanara's father Jalal Ahmed, mother Bilkis Begum, younger sister Sultana Jahan and private car driver Alauddin were injured. They were rescued and admitted to Cumilla Combined Military Hospital.
Mainamati Highway Police Station sub-inspector Nazrul Islam confirmed the matter.
