2 killed in clash over property dispute in B’baria

Two people have been killed over a dispute regarding a piece of land in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria.


The incident happened at the Bishutara village in Kalikach Union of the upazila on Tuesday morning, said Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Rafiqul Islam.

The deceased were identified as Azad Mia (55), the son of the late Omar Ali, and Amanat Mia (60), an associate of Azad’s nephew, Insan Mia. Azad and Insan had been involved in a long-standing dispute over a piece of land in the village, reports UNB.

According to locals, the violence unfolded when Azad Mia was opening his shop this morning. Insan Mia and his associates, armed with local weapons, attacked Azad, fatally injuring him in a brutal assault. In retaliation, Azad’s associates targeted Amanat Mia, stabbing him with a spear. Locals rushed him to Brahmanbaria General Hospital where doctors decaared him dead on arrival.

The bodies were sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy. Legal proceedings are underway. The situation has been brought under control, the OC said.
