Bus movement on all the internal routes in Bhola district halted as the Bus Workers Union enforced an indefinite strike from Monday morning, causing immense sufferings to the commuters.

Local people said an altercation ensued between a group of CNG drivers and driver and worker of ‘Ananya Paribahan’ at Charfashion upazila in Bhola on Sunday afternoon, over calling bus passengers.

At one stage, the CNG drivers beat up the driver Sajib and worker Tanjil of the bus, leaving them injured.

Protesting the attack, the Bus Workers Union called an indefinite strike in Bhola from Monday morning.

The bus movement on Bhola-Daulatkhan, Bhola-Tajumuddin, Bhola-Charfassion, Bhola-Ilisha and Bhola-Bheduria routes remain suspended due to the strike.

People from remote areas of the district have been facing difficulties due to lack of bus services, forcing them to hire auto-rickshaws and others to reach their destinations at higher fare.

Contacted, Mizanur Rahman, president of Bhola Bus Workers Union, said they will continue their strike until the attackers would not be punished.

They also demanded steps to stop movement of CNG-run-auto-rickshaws on the highway, reports UNB.
