Personnel of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested an alleged drug dealer and seized 12,000 Yaba tablets concealed in tea packets sent from Cox's Bazar through a courier service during a raid in Rangpur on Wednesday.

Deputy Director of Rangpur District DNC Md Abu Jafar confirmed the matter to BSS.

"We recovered a large consignment of Yaba tablets from the SA Paribahan counter near the city's Fire Service Station and arrested the suspect, Mansur Mondal alias Boda, red-handed while he was collecting the parcel this morning," he said.

The arrestee, Mansur Mondal, is the son of Md Jalal Mondal of Kanchanpur village in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur district.

Acting on a tip-off, DNC personnel from Rangpur and Bogura districts took positions undercover near the SA Paribahan counter. They intercepted Mansur as he arrived to collect the courier parcel containing the Yaba tablets.

A total of 12,000 Yaba tablets, estimated to be worth more than Tk 2.5 million, were recovered from tea packets used to conceal the contraband.

According to Abu Jafar, Mansur runs a tea shop in Cox's Bazar and allegedly used it as a cover to transport large consignments of Yaba to different parts of the country, including Rangpur.

The DNC has launched a drive to arrest other members of the alleged drug trafficking network.

Legal proceedings against the arrested accused are underway, the DNC official added.
