Two held with 22kg of cannabis in Khulna

Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers with 22 kilograms of cannabis in Khulna's Labanchara area on Monday night.


The arrestees were identified as Md Rubel Hawlader, 31, of Morrelganj upazila in Bagerhat, and Md Simbad Chowdhury, 28, of Rupsha upazila in Khulna.

Police said that they were arrested around 8.30 pm during a special drive on Sachibunia Bishwaroad on the Highway under the leadership of Assistant Police Commissioner (Khulna Zone) Md Shafiqul Islam and Officer-in-Charge of Labanchara Police Station Syed Mosharraf Hossain. 

During the operation, police searched the suspects and recovered 22kg of cannabis packed in 11 parcels wrapped with adhesive tape. Each parcel weighed about two kilograms.

The estimated market value of the seized drugs is around Tk 8,80,000. A case has been filed at Labanchara Police Station against them under the Narcotics Control Act.

Police said the investigation is underway to identify the source and destination of the narcotics as well as other members of the trafficking network, reports BSS.
