BGB seizes arms, 3.24 lakh yaba tablets, smuggled goods in five operations
Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) seized a foreign pistol, ammunition, 3.24 lakh yaba tablets and a large quantity of smuggled goods in five separate border operations today.
In Chapainawabganj, members of 59 BGB Battalion arrested Md Mashiur Rahman in Shibganj and seized a foreign pistol, four rounds of ammunition, two magazines and two motorcycles from his possession.
In Cox's Bazar, members of 64 BGB Battalion arrested Md Shafiul Alam, 18 and seized 10,000 yaba tablets at the Hoikong border in Teknaf. In a separate operation in Palongkhali, the battalion arrested Md Jonaet, 26, and seized 310,000 yaba tablets, which BGB said had been brought from Myanmar for sale.
In Jashore, members of 49 BGB Battalion seized 4,000 yaba tablets, 50 bottles of cough syrup, 200 sexual stimulant tablets, 75 sarees, 11 three-piece dresses, two blankets, one kilogram of cumin and 252 cosmetic items worth Tk 20.60 lakh. One person was arrested in connection with the seizure.
In Brahmanbaria and Cumilla, members of 60 BGB Battalion (Sultanpur Battalion) seized Indian smuggled goods worth Tk 42.03 lakh in separate operations.
The haul included cumin, energy drinks, puffed snacks, basmati rice, fireworks, hair oil, cattle, skin cream and a motorcycle.
BGB said intelligence surveillance and anti-smuggling operations would continue along the border, reports BSS.
