Earthquake: 3 buildings tilt in Chattogram on Friday

Chattogram, Nov 27 – At least three buildings tilted in Chattogram city after the earthquake on Friday morning, sources said.

The buildings are located at the Sabanghata area of Urdu Goli, Bahaddarhat Khwaja Road in Chawkbazar and New L block of Halishahar of the port city.

Confirming the matter, Kazi Hasan Bin Shams, the chief engineer of Chattogram Development Authority, said that three buildings tilted at Chawkbazar, Bakalia and Halishahar area in the port city.

He said a letter would be sent to the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) to demolish the buildings if they are deemed risky after the final examination on Saturday.

According to a study by the Earthquake Engineering Research Center (EERC) conducted by the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), 78 per cent of buildings in Chittagong city are at risk of earthquakes.

Earlier, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake shook Dhaka, Chittagong and some other parts of the country. - UNB
