Light Earthquake Jolts Dhaka and Surrounding Areas

A mild earthquake was felt in Dhaka and several other parts of Bangladesh on Friday afternoon, briefly shaking buildings and prompting concern among residents.


According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the quake struck at 4:53 PM and registered a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that the epicentre was located near the India-Bangladesh border, approximately 68 kilometers north of Cumilla and 26 kilometers north of Agartala, the capital of the Indian state of Tripura.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, though experts described the tremor as minor and not expected to cause significant impact.
