Plastic Products Can Boost BD’s Export Diversification

Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin highlighted the significant potential of plastic products in diversifying Bangladesh’s export market during the inauguration of the 17th International Plastic, Packaging, and Printing Industrial Fair at the Bashundhara International Convention City (ICCB) in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Addressing the event, the adviser emphasized the importance of developing a practical, reality-based policy for the plastic industry. "We must phase out harmful plastics while promoting responsible production and the use of beneficial plastic products," he said.
As Bangladesh approaches its graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status in November 2026, the adviser pointed out the challenges the country will face, including the loss of preferential market access and government incentives. "To remain competitive, we must enhance productivity, reduce production costs, and improve overall competitiveness," he stressed.
Sheikh Bashir Uddin also visited various stalls at the fair, which features over 800 exhibits from more than 390 brands across 18 countries, including China, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, and the UAE. The fair, jointly organized by the Bangladesh Plastic Product Manufacturer and Export Association and Hong Kong-based Yorkers Trade & Marketing Service Co. Ltd, offers a platform for showcasing innovative plastic technologies.
The exhibition is open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
