Bangladesh, US Make Headway in Final Round of Tariff Talks
The second day of the three-day Bangladesh–US tariff negotiations concluded on Thursday with notable progress, though several issues remain unresolved.
The final round of talks is set to begin today at 9 AM Washington DC time.
On Thursday, Bangladesh’s Commerce Adviser, Sk. Bashir Uddin, met with US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer, a senior official in the Trump administration. Their discussions focused on strengthening bilateral trade, with an emphasis on tariff structures and broader economic cooperation.
According to an official message received in Dhaka, the meetings were held in a cordial environment and addressed a broad range of mutual interests. The commerce adviser highlighted Bangladesh’s trade outlook and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to expanding both exports to and imports from the United States—a process already underway.
Bangladesh reiterated its call for a fair and competitive tariff regime. In response, Ambassador Greer assured the delegation of continued US cooperation.
The Bangladeshi delegation in Washington DC was led by Sk. Bashir Uddin, while National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman and Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant on ICT and Telecommunications Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb joined the discussions virtually from Dhaka. Senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce were also present in Washington.
