Pro-BNP, Pro-AL lawyers form sub-committees for SC Bar polls

Pro-BNP lawyers and Pro-Awami League lawyers on Sunday formed their sub-committees to contest in the Supreme Court Bar Association’s  (SCBA) executive committee for 2023-24, to be held on March 15 and 16.

AL backed executive committee secretary Abdun Noor Dulal announced formation of a seven-member sub-committee led by Shah Khasruzzaman.

BNP-backed executive committee senior joint secretary Mahfuz bin Yusuf announced formation of a seven-member sub-committee led by Dr AZM Fariduzzaman Farhad.

In the 2022-2023 executive committee election of the SCBA, Pro-AL lawyers won seven posts including president and secretary, out of 14 posts and seven posts were won by pro-BNP lawyers.

Shah Khasruzzaman is the convener of the election sub-committee announced by secretary Abdun Noor Dulal while the members of this committee are: brave freedom fighter Md Moniruzzaman, Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya, Abdul Malek, SM Golam Mustafa Tara, Md Altaf Hossain Amani and Abu Naser Shapon.

Senior joint-secretary Mahfuz bin Yusuf announced as the convener of the committee, Dr. AZM Fariduzzaman Farhad while the members of this committee are: ASM Moktar Kabir Khan, Dr Md Golam Rahman Bhuiyan, Mohammad Ashraf-us Zaman Khan, Mahmud Hasan, Mohammad Kamal Hossain and Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Khan.

Earlier, a notice was issued announcing the election date on February 23 (Thursday). According to the election schedule, nomination papers can be submitted between 10 am and 5 pm from February 23 to March 5.

The deadline for submission of nomination papers is 5.30 pm, March 5 the deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers is 5 pm, March.

The elections for 14 posts, including President,  Secretary and Treasurer will be held on March 15 and 16.

Elections would be held also for two posts of vice-president, two posts of joint-secretary and seven executive committee members.
